In Early America, during the Colonial period, when the men were out to sea, they would often return with Pineapples from tropical lands they had visited.
After they were home, the pineapple would be affixed to a newel post,
or a wreath on the door,
as a symbol, that the seafarer had returned safely home,
and company was 'welcomed'.
Today, we often use the pineapple in our decor,
to share the warmth of our welcome with our guests.
